Inuktun Sighting #14: Crawl Space

ABERDEEN, SCOTLAND —

In a perfect world, all pipes would be straight as an arrow. Easy to clean, easy to repair, and easy to inspect.

Inuktun’s Versatrax Vertical Crawler™ is designed for an imperfect world.

Combining the power of three Microtracs™ and an expandable tripod chassis, the unique Vertical Crawler can perform difficult inspections over a range of pipe sizes in virtually any orientation.

As shown in this behind-the-scenes factory YouTube footage from Inuktun Europe’s quality control floor, the Versatrax Vertical Crawler™ can easily travel from a horizontal pipe to vertical through a 90-degree bend in a 10-inch pipe.

Independent control of each track allows the crawler to navigate multiple bends and vertical pipe segments over distances of up to 600 feet/183 metres. Of course, most pipes aren’t clear PVC tubing as demonstrated, so auxiliary LED lighting complements high quality video captured by the onboard Spectrum 45™ camera. The captured footage is sent back to the operator, while real-time sensors indicate pipe size and expansion force.

Applications include flexible risers; vertical and inclined pipework and caissons; steam headers; vertical air and seawater intakes; and oil and gas refineries.

Constructed out of marine-grade anodized aluminum and stainless steel, the Vertical Crawler™ is extremely durable and fully submersible for underwater applications.

It’s the perfect inspection vehicle for an imperfect world.
