Disable to Enable the Zone

When we heard about OCEANVISION’s Spectrum 90™ camera being used in a Zone 1 area, we couldn’t help but be reminded of a familiar project where disabling power to the camera allowed us to successfully operate in a zone rating application.

Our in-house engineering team modified a Spectrum™ PC interface box to support the addition of a custom designed subsea pressure switch. The interface box includes a relay module that enables camera power to be delivered to the camera tether when the subsea pressure switch is subjected to water pressure at five metres or deeper. This allowed LateraL AS to operate their Spectrum 120™ (SP120) deep water camera down the turret on a floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit north of Norway. The camera is used in zone 1 and zone 0 environments, performing remote visual inspection for LateraL’s clients. They reported that the camera works perfectly every time they use it, and they are very satisfied. Check out their feature here.
