Inuktun Sighting #71: Get a Grip (with Inuktun’s Manipulator)

Today’s #InuktunInTheWild sighting comes the Centre of Innovation - Marine & Offshore Technology at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Students from this leading institution of higher learning in Singapore recently integrated Inuktun’s manipulator into their ROV named NPROVER. Check out this video featuring NPROVER performing pool tests.

Inuktun’s manipulator, originally designed as a deep sea articulating gripper with an array of interchangeable jaw sets, can be seen attached to the bottom of the ROV, collecting small rings at the bottom of the pool. The NPROVER is in the process of being customized for underwater inspection work in collaboration with a local shipyard. Congratulations to the NPROVER team on a great design! We wish them all continued success.

Despite its small size, the two-function manipulator is capable of surprisingly high closing forces, and the continuous rotation capability makes it easy to position the jaws for almost any remote handling operation. Check out this video to learn more about the standard gripper.
