Inuktun Sighting #74: Saudi Aramco employs IM3 technology for their SWIM-R

Today’s #InuktunInTheWild sighting comes from field tests recently performed at the Ras Tanura West Pier. Saudi Aramco developed an underwater inspection robot, the Shallow Water Inspection and Monitoring Robot (SWIM-R), which utilizes Inuktun’s Minitrac™ crawler modules. Check out Saudi Aramco’s article on the SWIM-R here.

Field tests were performed on visual inspection, marine life cleaning, ultrasonic thickness testing, and cathodic protection voltage measurements on underwater pipelines. Driven with Minitracs™, the SWIM-R was effectively able to crawl on the seabed and navigate through currents. Because of the system’s successful performance, the SWIM-R will be deployed in Saudi Aramco facilities and commercialized for the global market. Inuktun looks forward to providing its transporter crawler modules for future SWIM-R systems and being part of the solution of reducing the cost of corrosion within Saudi Aramco’s facilities.

Inuktun’s Minitracs™ can be found implemented in a number of original equipment manufacturer (OEM) systems and integrated in our standard product line.
