Inuktun Sighting #77: Oceanvision and the Ex Spectrum 90™

Oceanvision EX Spectrum 90

Oceanvision EX Spectrum 90

Regular readers might remember a recent blog post that showed an explosion proof camera system developed by Oceanvision, Pte. in Singapore. When they had a need for an IECEx Zone 1 rated camera system, they went looking on the market. But they had no luck. So, instead, they decided to build their own. Rather than develop everything from the ground up, they contacted Inuktun and purchased our Spectrum 90™ PTZ cameras, with a specialized control interface to work with their Ex rated PC system. Even though the Spectrum™ cameras are not (yet) certified for use in explosive atmospheres, Oceanvision’s engineers were able to achieve compliance with the IECEx directives by denying power to the camera until it was fully submerged (reminiscent of a similar Inuktun project for Lateral AS).

The new camera system was designed for INPEX and used onboard the floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit for the Ichthys LNG Project in the Timor Sea. The system was so successful that they have offered it commercially; Oceanvision bought two more cameras in December, 2016, and plans to buy more this year.
