Versatrax 150 Performs Demanding Task

It didn't take long for MS Industrial Services Limited to put its new Canadian-built Versatrax 150 system to the test. Almost immediately after receiving the versatile robotic camera from Inuktun Services in September, the British company received a call from DPAP Engineering Ltd of Ramat-Yshay, Israel, asking for help to inspect an intake pipe.

The task was to carry out an urgent long distance CCTV survey inspection of the main intake pipe, which has a diameter of one metre, from the sea to the Larnaca desalination plant in Cyprus. Time was of the essence, so the pipe had to be inspected while it was fully loaded with sea water. Equipped with the right equipment, MSIS sprung into action.

"A two-man crew and the Versatrax 150 system was flown from the UK to Cyprus," said Jim MacAskill Operations Director for MSIS. "There was an urgency to the inspection and it was a long distance inspection with a seven-metre drop from ground level to the pipeline access point."

Prior to contacting MSIS, DPAP had been unable to source any other companies capable of inspecting the pipeline for the required distances. The inspection required the Versatrax to be in a parallel configuration and it surveyed a single length of 445 metres of pipeline.

The inspection went of without a hitch and on time, and DPAP officials had high praise for MSIS and the Versatrax 150.

"I want to thank you and your team for the work carried out on site at Larnaca, they were perfect," said the project manager for DPAP Engineering. Since 1998, MSIS has grown into a major provider of cleanings, coatings and inspections services worldwide.

Traditionally its core business has been to provide industrial cleaning services to a wide range of clients, but, more recently, MSIS has developed its offshore business, particularly in tank cleaning, waste removal and disposal, using its innovative premier transfer system.
