Versatrax 300 Goes the Distance

The latest in the Versatrax line of mobile robotic systems will let pipe inspectors see more than 6,000 feet down a pipe.

The Versatrax 300, the latest miniature crawler system from Inuktun Services Ltd., is designed to give buyers an advantage over other companies.

"There are not a lot of people with systems capable of going long distances," said Inuktun president Colin Dobell. "This gives our clients a competitive advantage with the ability to travel 6,000 feet."

The Versatrax 300 benefits from time-tested modular parts with added high-tech features. The system, which comes with tracks that are individually micro-controlled, can be run by a personal computer. Designed for use in hazardous areas, the Versatrax 300 features built-in temperature, current and humidity sensors to inspect pipes as small as 12 inches.

The Versatrax can be attached to a float to travel down water-logged pipes where visibility is a common problem. "It has new LED lighting that is much brighter and better for video-imaging,' said Dobell.

Inuktun has been using the Versatrax's track modules since 1994 and its camera since 2002. The updated version uses a new chassis to make changing the setup for different pipe sizes easier.
