Vista Engineering Relies on Inuktun's Versatrax 150

Vista Engineering is the last resort for companies looking to unclog their pipes.

After clients struggle with their inability to navigate hundreds of feet of clogged pipe and suffer from inadequate camera footage to show the location of the block, they turn for help to Vista Engineering of Kennewick, WA. Vista then depends on Inuktun Services Ltd. for the tools to get the job done.

Vista Engineering confronted their latest challenge in Pasadena, CA, at the beginning of January.

"We were the second contractor to try the pipes," said project engineer Mike Maloof. "The first contractor just had a push camera and they ran into traction problems." But Vista Engineering, armed with their new Versatrax 150 from Inuktun Services Ltd., was able to navigate hundreds of feet of pipe to get the job done.

"It's a glorified remote-control car on steroids," said engineering field technician Steve Shepherd. "It goes where other devices can't go. It allows us to inspect lots of different kinds of pipe in lots of different kinds of environments all over the place."

The Versatrax 150, which is available to rent from Ashtead Technology Rentals, is a modular, long-range internal pipe inspection system. The vehicle is built modularly, making it easily configurable for round pipe or flat surface operation with a wide range of dimensions. This isn't the first time Inuktun products have helped Vista Engineering develop their reputation as a top company for pipe inspection.

After a Butte, MT, copper mine was shut down, Vista Engineering was brought in to help clean up the polluted storm drains. "With a couple of years worth of storm drain run off, the drain pipe was all bogged up," said Shepherd. But with the help of Inuktun's Versatrax 150, the company was able to find the blockage in the pipe.

"It's very impervious to gunk and goo," said Shepherd. Next up for Vista Engineering is a nuclear inspection in Corpus Christi, TX. "Our reputation starting to speak for us," said Shepherd. "The Inuktun equipment certainly helps."
