When students from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics at AGH University of Science and Technology needed a mechanism to transport their mobile robot system designed for pipeline inspection, they turned to Inuktun for a proven, off-the-shelf solution. This week’s #InuktunInTheWild sighting features our rugged Microtrac™ crawler tracks integrated in a prototype robot spotted in these videos (here and here).
The vehicle deploying Inuktun’s Microtrac™ transporter units incorporates closed kinematic chains with six independently controlled servomotors. An active adaptation system allows the prototype vehicle to adjust to different pipelines including circular or rectangular cross-sections that are either horizontal or vertical. As the videos show, the OEM robotic crawler system successfully negotiates elbows and internal diameter changes. Because it is driven by Inuktun’s rugged and durable Microtracs™, this inspection robot can easily assess smooth surfaces or rough terrain in dry spaces or subsea environments.
