Inuktun Sighting #159: Unpiggable Pipeline Inspected for First Time

This week’s #InuktunInTheWild sighting is courtesy of Nortech, a distributor of high technology products and provider of specialized services in the field of pipelines. When a major operator in the oil industry approached them to perform a structural integrity assessment of 125-millimetre (five inch) unpiggable lines that cross the heart of Rio de Janeiro - never inspected before due to flow conditions, tight bends and lack of pigging facilities - they knew exactly what IM3™ (Multi-Mission Modular) robotic crawler would be up for the job.

Known for accessing extremely small confined spaces and inspecting the unexpected, IM3™ technology includes a proven range of Versatrax™ pipe inspection vehicles – trusted to collect repeatable, actionable, meaningful, and preventative data for determining remaining useful life, scheduling maintenance or repairs, and conforming with certification requirements across industries. This pipeline was no problem for Inuktun’s Versatrax 100™ Mark II inline pipe inspection vehicle, capable of accessing pipes as small as 100 millimetres (four inches). The client had a requirement to investigate an area up to 210 metres (700 feet) from the access point. Unique to the industry, the OnSite standard Versatrax 100™ Mark II can travel up to 300 metres (one kilometre) in a single run. Nortech reports that the system rented in Brazil successfully performed the pipe inspection, allowing for a comprehensive report of features and construction characteristics catalogued. Just another day’s work for our off-the-shelf rental fleet.

Did you know that Inuktun offers a “Try Before You Buy” program? If you’re interested in testing out our robotic crawler and inspection camera systems in your real-world application before committing to a purchase, consider renting one of our OnSite Standard Products or OnDemand Specialty Systems and you’ll receive 50% of the fee returned with your purchase of the same system. If you’re interested in learning more about how inspection robots can improve pipeline integrity, contact us today to view a webinar on the subject. Eddyfi Technologies’ Director of US Field Sales Operations, Wes Kirkland, delivers an informative session on how modular robotic crawlers improve safety and reduce costs associated with inspecting confined space entries (CSE), limited access points, long distances, variable geometry, and other pipeline structural integrity assessment challenges.

When you see IM3™ technology working hard in the field or hanging out around the water cooler in your office, take a picture or video and submit it to the editor to be featured in our next #InuktunInTheWild sighting!
